2021 Recap on Veganism

We thought we would start this year but taking a look back at 2021. Sure it had its downfalls, mostly uncertainty, but something we can celebrate is that the vegan market continued to rapidly grow. The vegan movement is growing so quickly in all areas , from food to fashion, and this is a big positive because the more the vegan movement evolves, the less animal cruelty in the world and the healthier the planet.

1. For the first time in history, the Met Gala had an entirely vegan menu. The Met Gala is the event of the year in the fashion industry so this is huge. Also, Billie Eilish wore an Oscar de la Renta dress to the Met Gala with one condition, that they ditch fur forever. Talk about a power move!

2. In 2021, the vegan food industry was worth over $15 billion. We can probably thank all the amazing meat and cheese alternatives for this one. Compared to just a few years ago there has been a massive shift and you probably will have noticed how extensive the vegan options are now in most supermarkets.

3. It was estimated that 513,663 people participated in Veganuary last year, which is over double the amount when compared to 2019. This shows the growing interested in trying to eat more vegan meals, and experimentation is where it all begins.

4. Cadbury launched their first ever vegan dairy chocolate. This was the surprise we all needed to get us through 2021!

5. Stella McCartney partnered with Bolt Threads to create Mylo, a vegan leather company using mushroom. Sustainability is becoming an important topic in the world of vegan leather, and new materials such as pineapple leather, cactus leather, apple leather, and more are coming into the picture. This collab with Stella McCartney, the queen of vegan fashion, was very exciting!

How amazing to look back at all of these changes, and so many more, all made in one year. Lets use this as inspiration for the big, positive changes we can make together in 2022 - bring it on!
